Russian Aircraft Detected Near Alaska by US Defense System

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected and tracked four Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), but stated that the aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. NORAD remains prepared to employ response options in defense of North America, and Russia's defense ministry described the flight as a long-range training flight over neutral waters in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
