Lawsuits Challenge Racial Gerrymandering in North Carolina's Election Maps

The NAACP has filed a federal lawsuit accusing Republican lawmakers in North Carolina of racially gerrymandering new political districts to favor white voters over Black voters. The lawsuit challenges new districts for U.S. House of Representatives, state House and Senate seats, and highlights specific areas that have been racially gerrymandered. Republicans, who control the state legislature, deny intentionally targeting Black voters. The lawsuit seeks new maps to be used in the 2026 elections, if not 2024. This is the third racial gerrymandering lawsuit filed in recent weeks against North Carolina's newly redrawn voting maps.
