Americans are divided on whom to blame if the US government defaults on its debts, with 39% blaming Republicans in Congress and 36% blaming President Biden, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll. However, most Americans (58%) agree with Biden's position that debt payment and federal spending cuts should be handled separately, rather than linking them as the GOP suggests. The poll also found that support for Biden's position on the debt ceiling has dropped from 65% to 58% since February, but the share of those who favor linking the debt ceiling with spending cuts has not grown.
