Roosevelt Hotel in NYC to serve as asylum-seeker and migrant relief center.

New York City will open its first asylum-seeker arrival center, which will also serve as the city's ninth Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center, to handle the hundreds of migrants arriving each day following the expiration of a pandemic-era border restriction. The center will provide legal, medical, and reconnection services, as well as placement in a shelter or humanitarian relief center. The city has processed over 65,000 migrants since last spring, and officials are pleading for more state and federal government support to handle the national crisis. New York City is also appealing legal action from nearby counties after announcing a plan to send willing migrants to hotels outside the city.
