"Northern Lights Set to Illuminate Skies Across Multiple US States"

The northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are unlikely to be visible across the lower 48 states in the U.S. despite an early forecast suggesting otherwise. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute initially projected that the auroras could be visible in several states, but the forecast was later updated to show that they would primarily be visible in Alaska, parts of Canada, and a few U.S. cities at higher latitudes. Long-term predictions of space weather are challenging due to limited input measurements and the unpredictable behavior of solar storms. However, as the sun approaches a period of maximum activity, there may be more opportunities to see the northern lights in mid-latitude states in the future.
