Millions in US Face Dual Threat of Heat and Flood Advisories

Nearly 200 million people in the United States, or 60% of the population, are under a heat advisory or flood warning or watch as extreme heat moves eastward, engulfing much of the eastern half of the country. Some residents in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic will experience their hottest temperatures of the year. Night temperatures are forecast to remain hotter than usual, prompting excessive heat warnings. Severe thunderstorms are also expected in parts of the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. The extreme heat is putting stress on power grids and utilities, potentially affecting Americans' ability to cool off. Climate change is believed to be a contributing factor to the prolonged bouts of extreme weather. Relief is expected with a cold front on Sunday.
