NOAA's Spring Outlook: Flood Threats, Warmth, and Chill Across US.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has warned that 44% of the US is at risk of flooding this spring, with most of the eastern half of the country, including the Mississippi River Basin, under threat. The historic snowpack along the Sierra Nevada mountain range is heightening the potential for spring floods across much of California's coast. Climate change is driving both wet and dry extremes, with moderate to exceptional drought coverage across the US at its lowest since August 2020. Above-average temperatures are likely for much of the southern and eastern half of the US this spring, while below-average temperatures are predicted for the central Great Basin and the northern Plains.
