Storm system battering Southeast Michigan triggers tornado warnings, outages and flooding

Severe storms swept through Michigan overnight, bringing tornado watches, damaging winds and heavy rain. Ann Arbor saw structural damage including the Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena’s east wall collapse and damage at Yost Ice Arena, with hundreds of emergency calls logged. Power outages affected thousands across the region (DTE reporting about 15,824 customers without power and Consumers Energy about 200 in Adrian). Flooded roads included I-75 in Wayne County and I-96 in Livingston County, while the entire state remained under a flood watch through Thursday. Several schools in Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties were closed as crews assess damage.
