Mummified Green Hand Found Clutching Copper Coin in Cemetery Jar

A team of scientists discovered a mummified green hand of a tiny baby clutching a late medieval copper coin in an abandoned cemetery in Nyarlorinc, Hungary. The coin found alongside the remains was in circulation between 1858 and 1862, at least 150 years after the cemetery had been abandoned. The infant's body was crammed full of copper, especially in the hand clutching at the copper coin, which kept the hand and other parts of the body from being broken down by microbes. The team believes it is the first solely copper-driven mummification case ever reported.
