AI Makes Groundbreaking Discovery: First Supernova Detected and Classified Independently

Artificial intelligence (AI) has successfully detected, identified, and classified its first supernova, marking a significant step forward in automating the process of analyzing and categorizing these stellar explosions. The program, called Bright Transient Survey Bot (BTSbot), could potentially replace human astronomers in spotting supernovas, allowing them to focus on investigating the origins and modeling the behavior of these cosmic events. By training the AI with over 1.4 million historical images, the researchers were able to test BTSbot's capabilities and successfully identify a newly spotted supernova candidate.
