China's Wide-Field Survey Telescope Captures Stunning Andromeda Galaxy Images

China's new Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST), jointly developed by the University of Science and Technology of China and the Purple Mountain Observatory, has entered into operation and captured a high-resolution image of the Andromeda galaxy. With a diameter of 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) and 9k x 9k mosaic CCD detectors, the WFST is the largest time-domain survey facility in the Northern Hemisphere. It aims to monitor the sky for transient astronomical events and improve China's near-Earth object monitoring and early warning capabilities. The telescope, nicknamed Mozi, marks a significant advancement in Chinese astronomy and is comparable to international observation equipment.
