Unveiling the Masked Hunter Bug: Your Nocturnal Housemate

The masked hunter bug, also known as Reduvius personatus, is a nocturnal assassin bug found throughout the US and southern Canada. Believed to have been introduced from Europe in the late 1800s, these bugs have mouthparts designed to penetrate and feed on other insects. They are beneficial predators that eat flies, carpet beetles, mealworms, and bed bugs. Masked hunters prefer dry habitats and are usually found indoors, particularly in attics and crawlspaces where their prey may be plentiful. While their bite can penetrate human skin, they typically only bite in self-defense.
