Researchers at the University of California San Diego have developed a new search tool called microbeMASST to better understand the metabolism of microorganisms, addressing limitations in current techniques. This tool allows matching microbes to the metabolic signatures they produce without prior knowledge, potentially transforming our understanding of human health and the environment. The tool, developed by the Collaborative Microbial Metabolite Center, can identify microbes in a sample within seconds and is expected to have applications in various fields of biology.
