Unprecedented Sun Explosion Confirmed to Impact Earth

Scientists have discovered evidence of the largest solar storm ever identified, known as a "Miyake Event," which occurred 14,300 years ago. These extreme solar storms could have significant impacts on Earth, potentially causing widespread blackouts lasting months and damaging electrical grids. The researchers have identified nine Miyake Events so far, with this newly-identified storm being roughly twice the size of the others. While the most intense solar storm observed directly impacting Earth occurred in 1859, a Miyake-type event would be much stronger and more potentially damaging. NASA's Parker Solar Probe is expected to provide valuable insights to better forecast and prepare for solar ejections in the future.
