Uncovering the World's Tallest Hidden Mountains

Scientists studying the Earth's interior have discovered mountain ranges with peaks as much as four times higher than Mt. Everest, located between the planet's molten core and mantle. These peaks were discovered in 1996 by researchers studying seismic waves passing through the core-mantle boundary. The peaks are mysterious in many ways, and their origins are still unknown. Additionally, scientists are also curious about huge "mantle blobs" found floating just above the planet's center, which can produce plumes of molten material.
