Japan's SLIM moon lander, which successfully touched down on the lunar surface, had its battery shut off at 12% to avoid over-discharge, with hopes of restarting it later if sunlight can generate power from its solar cells. Despite the unexpected challenges, Japan celebrated becoming the fifth country to reach the moon, following the United States, the Soviet Union, China, and India. The lander was carrying two small autonomous probes, and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is preparing to announce the current status and results at the end of the week.
