"Upside-Down: Japan's Moon Lander Photo Sparks Lunar Exploration Debate"

Japan's robotic moon lander successfully made the journey to the lunar surface but landed upside down, causing its solar panels to be misaligned and leading to a shutdown to conserve power. A small rover, equipped with cameras and built with the help of a toy maker, captured the image of the inverted lander. The space agency is investigating an engine problem that occurred during the landing and is hopeful for a recovery before freezing temperatures set in. NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter also passed over the landing site and captured a photograph showing the change in reflectance around the lander due to engine exhaust sweeping the surface.
