European Astronauts to Join Artemis 4 and Artemis 5 Moon Missions

European Space Agency (ESA) Director Josef Aschbacher confirmed that both the Artemis 4 and Artemis 5 moon missions, scheduled for 2028 and 2029 respectively, will include one European astronaut. ESA is providing critical elements for the Artemis missions, including the service module for NASA's Orion spacecraft and modules for the moon-orbiting Gateway space station. ESA will receive three flight opportunities for European astronauts in exchange. Discussions are ongoing regarding the development of ESA's own spacecraft and infrastructure for future missions.
