SpaceX's Starlink: Controversy in the Skies and on the Ground

SpaceX has disputed a report by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that claimed reentering components from its Starlink satellites could pose a risk to people on the ground. The report stated that SpaceX's satellites would account for 85% of the risk from reentering space junk by the middle of the next decade. SpaceX responded by calling the claims "preposterous, unjustified, and inaccurate," stating that their satellites are designed to fully burn up on reentry. The FAA is reviewing SpaceX's letter, and an Aerospace Corporation statement said they are working with SpaceX to review and update the data.
