"International Space Station (ISS) Batteries Reenter Earth's Atmosphere"

The European Space Agency is closely monitoring the reentry of a pallet of used International Space Station batteries, with estimates predicting a natural reentry around 18:56 CET on 8 March. The total mass of the batteries is estimated at 2.6 metric tonnes, with most expected to burn up during reentry. While some parts may reach the ground, the casualty risk is very low, and the reentry is expected to occur between -51.6 degrees South and 51.6 degrees North. ESA is providing member states with the latest predictions and analyses, and most space objects reenter the atmosphere in a natural way approximately once per week, with the majority burning up before reaching the ground.
