Japan plans to launch wooden satellite in 2024.

Researchers from Kyoto University in Japan have designed a wooden satellite, scheduled to be launched by the Japanese space agency (JAXA) and NASA in 2024. The LignoSat Space Wood Project began in April 2020, as a collaboration between Kyoto University and Sumitomo Forestry. Results from a recent test aboard the International Space Station (ISS) have confirmed that wood is remarkably resilient even in the environment of outer space. Wooden satellites are more environmentally friendly, easier, cheaper, and cleaner to produce, and are much more disposable when it comes to a satellite's end-of-life.
