"Japan's Moon Lander Captures Eerie Final Photo Before Lunar Night"
TL;DR
Japan's SLIM lander, which unexpectedly turned back on after landing upside down on the moon, has gone dormant for the lunar night and may not wake up again due to the extreme cold. The last image it captured at the moon's Shioli crater before dusk has been shared by the JAXA team, and they confirmed that the lander is in a dormant state that will last at least the duration of the lunar night, with slim chances of resuming operations afterward. The team plans to attempt to operate it again when the Sun shines on its solar cells in mid-February.
