Impending Asteroid Threat: NASA Warns of Potential Earth Impact

NASA has reported that there is a 1 in 2,700 chance that the Bennu asteroid, which has been tracked for nearly 25 years, could hit Earth by September 2182. Bennu passes near Earth every six years and has had three close encounters in the past. In October 2020, NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission collected a sample from Bennu and is set to return it to Earth. If Bennu were to impact Earth, it would release 1,200 megatons of energy.
