The Ineffectiveness of Western Sanctions on Russian Oligarchs and Companies.

Despite being hit with Western sanctions, Russian billionaires have managed to regain much of their wealth, with 39 sanctioned billionaires regaining a staggering $104 billion since last March. Many billionaires skirted sanctions by transferring their assets to their spouses or associates, while others pre-empted any moves to detain their yachts or jets by sailing and flying them to friendlier destinations. High prices for commodities such as oil, metals and minerals in 2022 also helped boost the profits of Russian companies and brought billions of dollars into Vladimir Putin’s coffers.
