Expulsion of Russian Diplomats from Romania Highlights Rising Tensions

Forty Russian diplomats and embassy staff, including their families, are leaving Romania following a request from the government amid worsening ties between the two countries since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Romanian foreign ministry stated that the decision reflects the current level of bilateral relations, and like other European countries, Romania has expelled Russian diplomats suspected of espionage. The number of staff at the Russian embassy in Bucharest has been reduced by more than half.
