Belarus Diplomat Rejects Possibility of Joining Russia in Ukraine Conflict

Belarus' foreign minister, Sergei Aleinik, stated that he cannot envision his country entering the war in Ukraine alongside Russian forces, emphasizing that the tactical nuclear weapons recently deployed in Belarus are primarily for defense. While Belarus has a strategic partnership with Russia, Aleinik highlighted that his country's ties to Russia are not isolating it, as it is actively building economic and trade relations with countries interested in Belarusian agricultural products. He criticized Lithuania for blocking transit of Belarusian fertilizers and mentioned that Belarus is increasing its cooperation with Russia in various areas to counter Western sanctions. Aleinik expressed support for peace in Ukraine and blamed Ukraine and others indirectly involved for the failure of previous negotiations, but stated that Belarus will continue its efforts to achieve a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict.
