"EU Court Removes Russian Billionaires from Sanctions List Amid Ukraine Conflict"

The European Union Court of Justice has removed Russian billionaires Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven from the sanctions list, stating that their inclusion was not justified and the reasons for it were not sufficiently substantiated. The court ruled that the billionaires should not have been included on the list between February 2022 and March 2023, but the E.U. reimposed the measures in March 2023. The court acknowledged that the Council may have grounds to establish their ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but found no evidence that they have supported actions against Ukraine or financially supported Russian decision makers.
