Germany to station 4000 troops permanently in Lithuania to boost NATO's eastern flank security.

Germany has offered to permanently station around 4,000 troops in Lithuania to strengthen NATO's eastern flank in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The German Defense Minister said infrastructure and facilities will need to be created to accommodate the soldiers and their families. Germany's military has already been present in Lithuania for six years with several hundred soldiers, leading a NATO battlegroup with currently about 1,600 soldiers. Lithuania welcomed the announcement and said it wants to build up the needed infrastructure by 2026.
