Hamas Delegation's Visit to Russia Raises Concerns and Tensions

A delegation from Hamas, led by Moussa Abu Marzouk, has arrived in Moscow for discussions with Russian Foreign Ministry officials regarding the release of foreign hostages from Gaza and the evacuation of Russian citizens and foreigners from the enclave. The visit comes amid Russia's complicated position in the Israel-Hamas war, as it has relations with all primary actors in the conflict, including Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and Iran. Russia's relations with Israel are currently strained, and it has called for a cease-fire and peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also expected to visit Moscow soon for an official visit and to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
