Haniyeh referred to Jews as the "biggest enemy of Muslims" and expressed hope for success in destroying Israel's weapons. The conference attendees recognized Hamas fighters as a "political force" engaged in defensive jihad. The convention took place two months after Hamas terrorists attacked southern Israel, resulting in numerous casualties and hostages.
