Assessing Ukraine's Counteroffensive Progress.

Ukraine has launched a counteroffensive to retake Russian-occupied territory, but measuring its progress is difficult. Russian fortifications in Ukraine are extensive, and advancing Ukrainian troops need to look for areas where Russian defensive lines are weak before trying to punch through. Ukraine has suffered casualties and equipment losses in the early fighting, but the main thrust of the counteroffensive has probably not begun. The bulk of the nine Ukrainian brigades that were trained over the past year and a half by American and allied countries have yet to engage in the fight.
