The Disappearance and Arrest of Russian Scientists Raises Concerns.

Russia has lost over 50,000 scientific researchers in the past five years, according to Valentin Parmon, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Parmon called for a threefold increase in state research funding to attract capable people back to scientific research. The number of scientists in Russia has been steadily declining since 2014, with the total number of scientists falling to a historic low of 340,100 people in 2021. The prevailing atmosphere is affecting young scientists, with the number of scientists in Russia under the age of 30 decreasing by 25% over the past 10 years.
