Giant Trapdoor Spiders Discovered in Queensland and Australia

A new and rare species of spider, Euoplos dignita, has been discovered in Queensland, Australia, and is in need of protection due to habitat destruction. The tarantula-like spider was first discovered in the early 20th century but remained undescribed until now due to a lack of research. The researchers were able to identify and name the species after finding a male specimen, which is important for identifying species within the Mygalomorphae order. The species has a red-brown carapace and can grow up to 2 inches long.
