Yerevan Biodiversity Summit Reaches Deal, but Funding Shortfalls Persist
Delegates from nearly 200 nations agreed on a new action plan in Yerevan to address the failure to meet 2022 biodiversity targets, but funding remains the primary obstacle. While 623 million acres of land are now protected, the world is on track to miss 23 of 24 global goals. New pledges exceeded $1 billion, yet the $30 billion public and $170 billion private targets for 2030 remain unmet. Political interference in scientific reporting and a lack of progress on the Cali Fund for genetic resources were key sticking points.
