New 3D Map Reveals Hidden Marmara Sea Fault Segments Linked to Istanbul Quake
Researchers built a full 3D electromagnetic model of the Marmara Sea using magnetotelluric data to map underground resistivity, revealing weak and locked fault segments along the North Anatolian Fault. The findings highlight potential start zones and magnitudes for future megathrust earthquakes near Istanbul, though they do not predict when a quake will occur.
