Anthropic Tightens the Claude Gate for Chinese Engineers

Anthropic is tightening rules to block mainland China access to its Claude AI, closing loopholes used by Ant Financial (corporate Claude accounts via intranet) and ByteDance (engineers using VPNs), and by Microsoft through Singapore entities. It’s also pursuing transfer-station bans to prevent routed requests. Larger Chinese AI groups avoid these workarounds due to data concerns. Anthropic says access in unsupported regions is prohibited and relies on evolving detection to ban violators.

Aliro revolutionizes smart lock access with smartphones and smartwatches

Apple, Google, Samsung, and other major tech companies have joined forces with lock makers and chip makers to develop Aliro, an open standard for smart locks and digital keys. The goal is to create a global communication protocol and common credentialing system that allows any authorized smartphone or smartwatch to open any smart lock, regardless of the manufacturer. Aliro, which is being developed by over 200 companies, aims to simplify access points and eliminate the need for proprietary apps or specific devices. While still in the concept stage, Aliro is expected to release its first specification in early 2025.

Pentagon Takes Action After Classified Document Leak

The Pentagon has launched a security review and is limiting access to highly classified information following the recent Discord leak. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has directed a comprehensive review of security programs, policies, and procedures, with initial findings and recommendations due within 45 days. The Pentagon is also reviewing distribution lists to ensure that only those who need access to classified material have it. The DoD has been working on cybersecurity reforms, including implementing zero trust, which assumes no user is fully trusted on a network and must continuously be validated.
