NASA denies involvement in flash over Kyiv, Ukraine.
A powerful flash in the sky over Kyiv triggered an air raid alert, which was caused by a retired NASA satellite, the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager, reentering the Earth's atmosphere. The satellite was used to observe solar flares and was launched in 2002 and decommissioned in 2018. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that the flash was related to the fall of a satellite/meteorite. The risk of harm to anyone on Earth was low, and most of the spacecraft was expected to burn up as it enters the atmosphere.
