Infants Favor Outside Observations Over Self-Trust
Infants display an "altercentric bias," prioritizing the attention of others over their own observations when tracking the location of objects. A study involving 8- and 12-month-old infants found that younger infants relied more on an animated character's attention, while older infants showed signs of transitioning towards trusting their own observations. This bias may facilitate learning during a time when infants have limited physical interaction with the environment.
