Broadview Six Prosecutor Resigns, Accusing U.S. Attorney of Scapegoating
Sheri Mecklenburg, the lead federal prosecutor in the collapsed Broadview Six case, has resigned from the Department of Justice. In a scathing letter, she accused U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros of personally directing the felony prosecution and using her as a scapegoat for the case's failure. The case, which involved six protesters arrested outside a Chicago ICE facility, was dismissed after allegations of grand jury misconduct emerged. Mecklenburg claims Boutros ignored her objections to the felony charges and failed to inform her of critical hearings, damaging her career and reputation.
