Messi retires from Argentina duties after 21-year run
Argentina superstar Lionel Messi announced his retirement from international soccer after 21 years with the national team, capping his run with a 2022 World Cup title; he finishes as Argentina’s all-time top scorer with 125 goals in 207 appearances and will continue to play for Inter Miami in MLS. He wrote the retirement note two days after the World Cup final, amid personal loss with his father’s death, and received widespread tributes from teammates and the Argentine Football Association.
