ASU Hockey Players Demand Coach's Suspension After Disputing Mayich Collapse Report

Seven anonymous Arizona State University hockey players have sent a 26-page letter to President Michael Crow, demanding the immediate suspension of head coach Greg Powers and an independent investigation into the August 20 workout that left teammate Matthew Mayich in a coma. The players allege the university’s internal report misrepresented the severity of the session, claiming it lasted 75 minutes rather than 45, and that Mayich received no proper hydration or medical care. They assert that Powers downplayed Mayich’s condition as a minor heat stroke and continued training the next day. Mayich family attorney blasts ASU over handling of hockey player’s collapse

Rob Carey, attorney for Matthew Mayich’s family, says ASU is mishandling the Aug. 20 collapse during a 60-minute outdoor workout and calls for administrative leave for coaching staff; Mayich, a 21-year-old ASU defenseman and Blues draft pick, remains in critical condition.
