Israel Halts Board of Peace’s First Gaza Base, Stalling $71bn Reconstruction Plan
Israel has blocked the construction of a critical military outpost in Gaza, preventing the launch of the US-backed Board of Peace’s stabilization force. The delay, which began in August, halts a $2.45bn initial reconstruction phase and jeopardizes a $71bn ten-year plan. While 500 troops from Morocco and Kosovo are already deployed, the 150-strong vanguard cannot enter without the base, stalling all infrastructure work. Officials expect approval after Israel’s October 27 elections, but strikes have killed 1,400 since the 2025 ceasefire.
