Early retirement on the rise, regrets follow
A new TIAA Institute survey finds Americans are retiring earlier than planned and regret not saving enough, with about half of retirees saying they retired earlier than they expected and roughly 75% wishing they had saved more. The findings highlight the need for multiple retirement scenarios, stronger use of workplace plans (autoenrollment) and catch-up contributions, and building cash reserves to weather unexpected early retirements or financial shocks.
