"Perseverance Rover Captures Martian 'Avocado' Rock in Stunning Photo"
NASA's Perseverance rover has captured a photo of a rock on Mars that resembles a ripe avocado, adding to its collection of interestingly shaped rocks. The image was taken using Perseverance's Mastcam-Z camera and shows a rock with a rounded half lying upside down in the foreground and another half with a distinct pit in its center. The rugged surface of the rock resembles the texture of an avocado peel. Perseverance is exploring the Jezero Crater with the help of the Mars helicopter Ingenuity, aiming to characterize the ancient environment and collect samples for future missions. These images demonstrate pareidolia, where the human brain perceives familiar patterns in random visual data.
