Netherlands Boycotts Eurovision, Citing Eroding Neutrality Amid Global Conflicts
The Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS says Eurovision can no longer be considered neutral as international conflicts spill into the contest and will skip next year’s event. The decision comes after ongoing tensions around Israel’s participation and prior changes to hosting rules; Israel finished second in 2025 and 2026, and next year’s Eurovision will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria. This year drew about 131 million viewers, with five countries boycotting or not broadcasting over Israel’s involvement.
