Nintendo rolls out Europe revisions with user-replaceable batteries ahead of new EU rules

Nintendo announced that Europe-bound revisions of its products, led by Switch 2, will add user-replaceable batteries to comply with upcoming European battery regulations; there are no functional changes, but the Switch 2 core model gains a 5172mAh battery (about 1% smaller) with weight changes, and Joy-Con 2 and Pro Controller updates; older adapters like the N64/GCN controllers receive small changes and battery kits will be sold. Availability will roll out from Summer 2026 through early 2027 across a wide list of European countries and select nearby markets, with current owners not needing to take any action.
