Paxton donation ties political action to Big 12 clash over Texas Tech’s Sorsby case
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reportedly received a $274,300 donation from Cody Campbell, chair of Texas Tech’s Board of Regents, one day before threatening to sue the Big 12 over sanctions related to Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility after a court injunction allowed him to play; the Big 12 sought a federal ruling to enforce its bylaws amid NCAA gambling violations, Sorsby later withdrew from Tech as the NFL paused the 2026 draft, and Campbell defended TTU’s handling as upholding student welfare.
