Hennessey Blackbird: a 71-unit SR-71 homage with a manual V-8, 800–900 hp, and 220 mph target
Hennessey Special Vehicles unveiled the Blackbird, a limited-run (71 units) hypercar honoring the SR-71 with a new naturally aspirated 6.2L V-8 paired to a six‑speed manual, delivering an estimated 800–900 hp to the rear wheels, 0–60 mph in about 2.5 seconds, and a 220 mph top speed. The car emphasizes analog driving, featuring no screens in the cockpit, gullwing doors, a central tachometer, and a gated shifter, while offering practical storage (two front carry-ons and two behind the seats). Its design includes a chine line echoing the aircraft, automatic rear vertical stabilizers at 71 mph, and a diamond exhaust motif. Production is planned to begin in 2028–2029, with presales expected to close during Monterey Car Week when a show prototype debuts at The Quail; pricing starts at around $2.5 million.
