Texts reveal Jayapal’s doubts about Wilson’s handling of Bite of Seattle shooting
Released text messages show Rep. Pramila Jayapal questioned Mayor Katie Wilson’s leadership during the July 26 Bite of Seattle shooting, which left three dead and four wounded. Jayapal expressed doubt about Wilson’s competence in a text to Gov. Bob Ferguson, stating, 'I’m not confident she knows what she is doing.' The messages highlight a five-hour delay in public briefings, with police ready to address the media at 7:30 p.m. but instructed to wait. Jayapal later criticized the delay, while Wilson’s office emphasized ongoing efforts to improve public safety communications.
