"Surprising Flow Acceleration and Boundary Layer Generation Uncovered in Study"
Aerospace engineers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign conducted an experiment on turbulent boundary layers and observed the formation of a new internal boundary layer in response to acceleration in the flow. This internal layer significantly altered the behavior of the flow and was only observed under certain pressure gradients. The discovery of this boundary layer is important for understanding aerodynamics and improving turbulence models for vehicle design.
